Disadvantages

Tall DisadvantagesThe Disadvantages of Being Tall

Impossible to find clothing that fits

Most high street clothing retailers stock a range of clothing that does not cater for the taller man or lady. Many of the leading manufacturers do not even design for the taller market. There is also the assumption by many designers that if you're tall, you're also probably wide. You spend ages looking for 36 inch leg length denims only to find they come in waist sizes 42 and 44 inch !!!! Hey Tommy H. - some folks are tall and thin.

I keep hitting my head !
Low ceilings. Low hanging light shades. Low hanging advertising boarding. Stairwells. Small doorways....countless ways for those architects and designers to forget about us tall blokes.

Inadequate seat space
Tall guys know all about having to tuck their knees around their ears in an attempt to fit into a car, plane, bus seat etc. How many times have the tall guys raced to the airport 5 hours before the flight leaves in an effort to try to get one of those precious exit row seats on the airline. Tall guys experience major problems when purchasing automobiles - with the drivers seat right back, long legs still need plenty of cabin space to fit in comfortably. Car manufacturers seem to concentrate more on sleek aero-dynamic looks rather than tall guy comfort. When selecting a vehicle, there are many considerations for the tall driver.

Domestic and office fittings too low
The bathroom mirror is too low - shaving requires stooping. The shower head doesn't extend high enough - more stooping. I have a pain in my back and I'm only 15 minutes out of the bed. The bed - there's more of it - tall guys can't get a decent sleep in any beds with a vertical end panel. Forget the sleigh beds ! Kitchen workplaces are surely not designed for the taller culinary expert. Office desks are usually of a standard height i.e. the 5 foot 2 bloke shares a desk with his 6 foot 5 colleague.

Back Pain
Increased height leads to back pain, spinal problems, bad posture etc. Tall people require more awareness of good posture, orthopaedic beds, chairs with lumbar support etc.
